On Friday, June 12, recently-rewarded “Best Craft Brewery In America” and Arizona’s own Four Peaks Brewing Company, released their latest seasonal brew: Lefty’s Lager. Paler in color that its more robust cousin, the Maerzen; Lefty’s Lager tends to be less sweet with a more assertive hop character and a light, toasty, more delicate malt background. That is not to say that this Vienna-style lager is a hoppy beer – because it’s not – but it is a balanced beer. And if you know Four Peaks at all, you know they love balanced beer. It’s also slightly less alcoholic than a typical Maerzen, coming in at around 5.5% ABV.

If you ask the team of brewers at Four Peaks, they will tell you that the story behind Lefty’s Lager is based upon the “Rule of Buffalo.” For those who aren’t familiar, here is a quick lesson of the “Buffalo Club” – a club where you are only allowed to drink alcoholic beverages with your left hand. Every time you find a “member” drinking their beverage with their right hand, you can call “Buffalo Chug.” The person who was found drinking with their right hand then has to fill their cup and chug it down.  However, if someone calls Buffalo Chug and your beverage is empty or not opened yet, the person who called it must chug their beverage instead.
